Why I Believe in the Local Church

Are you making too little of the local church (dating church instead of making a commitment)? Are you making too much of the local church (ecclesiolatry…playing church)? Are you worshipping a form instead of Jesus?

It has been and still is a journey for me (as for all of us), but I truly truly truly believe that the proverbial local church ‘light bulb’ must come on and shine brightly throughout and through all our lives as Christians.  So much joy is waiting for you if you will dive into and join with the mission of a healthy local church.

On Sunday I preached a message from Matthew 16:13-20, titled, Why I Believe in the Church. In this message I covered some of the following:

1- A definition for the universal church and the local church (a biblical distinction we must grasp).

2- We discussed faulty definitions of the church (i.e. church is Sunday, church where 2 or 3 are gathered, a church is a building with a steeple, church is nature, etc…)

3- I dialogued with and challenged the common objections people raise to the local church (i.e. disbelief in organized religion/church & a very negative/hurtful or un-inspirational/boring past personal experience)
